movie in the park

there's nothing better than getting things done. even if they are silly things on a summer bucket list

tonight, we met up with our favorite friends jenny & jamie and went up to provo for a movie in the park. princess diaries - one of my favorites.

we trekked across the park and found a place to sit on the slope. it was steep! i think we chose the steepest part of the hill to sit on - we kept sliding down the whole time.

that ruby is very observant. none of us grown ups realized there was a puppy just down the hill from us but, ruby wouldn't rest until she got to pet the puppy. it's a good thing people in provo are kid-friendly. she literally fell asleep five minutes after she finally got to say hi to the dog. she looked so peaceful and cute just sleeping there.

the four of us snacked on popcorn, chocolate chip cookies & haribo gummy raspberries.

i loved hearing dan laugh out loud to the jokes and stuff that i've had memorized since i was 13 years old. this was the first time he'd seen the classic chick flick.

it started raining and getting really windy as soon as the movie ended - it was as if mother nature was telling us to 'go home'!

it was really so much fun. thanks for inviting us jenny & jamie! shall we go for newsies next week?

denver

we went to denver for the fourth of july and it was so much fun. dan's cousin jason and his family live there. we love visiting them and wish we lived closer. we did a lot of things but i'll let the pictures do the talking!
we had a fast-food picnic in the park - it was perfect // we went to the greatest craft store ever. 'fancy tiger crafts'. it was a crafter's heaven. i got these little felt balls to make a necklace or something. we'll see. // ruby and her cousin buddy, millie, in the bathtub! babies in the bathtub are like the cutest thing ever. // we went to this ice cream place called 'sweet action' and i got this honey cornbread ice cream. you read that right. honey cornbread flavored ice cream. it was really so so good. i was pleasantly surprised.
we went to the outlet mall and ruby was so happy to carry that bag! she loves shopping. // we went to the denver zoo and saw all the animals. ruby didn't really seem to care about them but we had fun! // we went to jason's office and ruby was really fascinated with the little girl there! on a side note, she is getting so good at cruising along the walls and furniture. // and most importantly, i got a nap. i'd say it was a good vacation indeed!
thanks for having us jason, ellen, gavin & millie! we miss you already!

McBride's Briar Patch

I just got a new calling in our ward and I am so excited about it: Activity Days! I liked my previous calling where I taught the 16 and 17 year-olds Sunday School class, but I feel like Activity Days is a little more up my alley! This past week was our first activity and we went berry picking. This field trip was the perfect low-key activity to introduce me to the girls.

First off, McBride's Berry Patch in Mapleton is awesome. They have rows and rows of raspberries and blackberries that you pick yourself. Each of the girls got a bucket and we set off down the rows to get our berries. I must say, it's kind of tough to maneuver the tight rows with a stroller, but I made do! We picked for about a half an hour and then took the berries to be weighed and payed for. One problem though - I remembered that they only accept cash and I had totally spaced it and only had a debit card! My Activity Days partner, Laurie, said that we both must have "new mommy brains" because she'd forgotten cash too! Laurie asked the owner if we could come back and pay with cash later that day but the lady was so nice and said not to worry about the cost! She said as long as we spread the word about McBride's that would be good enough! I was so taken by her kindness and generosity. I hope to be that kind someday. So needless to say, I am spreading the word! But I would have recommended berry picking at McBride's anyway because it was so fun.

Here's the info on McBride's Briar Patch:

Plane Tickets and Cherry Blossoms

Have I mentioned how great Dan's Job is?

They're sending him to work in Washington D.C. for a month. And seeing as I've never been to our Nation's Capital and have a ton of free time on my hands, I'm going to tag along! I am so excited. It'll sort of be a babymoon. I've been feverishly looking for plane tickets and getting awfully excited.

It'll be during the Cherry Blossom Festival which will be incredible! I'm going to also take a short trip up to Boston to visit the fam also.

My To-Do list includes seeing the Cherry Blossoms and the Ruby Slippers, but beyond that I'm not sure what the best things to do are! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
